Morning y’all!

If you had time to ponder yesterday’s thoughts on trust and have any comments and/or thoughts, I’d love to hear them! I try to mix in a few posts like that every once in a while, in-between industry news and apps.

Today should be a small collection of apps that have crossed my desk and then I’ll let you get back to more important matters! Have a great day folks!

Gartner released an emerging tech “radar” that includes a lot of artificial intelligence pieces with “knowledge graphs” being called out near the center of the image. I highlight this specifically because combining LLMs and KGs is something I’m actively working on in my full-time work and it’s a powerful advancement in reducing bias, hallucinations, and speed.

Adobe is deep into “socially responsible AI” which ostensibly is not about profits. Firefly’s training data comes from their own stock photo library and they partnered with IBM, Mattel, NVIDIA, and NASCAR to explore how intellectual property can be used to generate copyrighted content.

Anthropic’s Claude 3 has apparently passed OpenAI’s GPT-4 in the arena. The race for speed and performance will never end and the real winners will be consumers and developers who are building on top of them. Let the fight continue!

AI and Airtable is now a thing which isn’t surprising. I personally don’t use the app that much but I know folks who swear by it.

Butternut helps you create a website with just a simple prompt. Apparently in less than 20 seconds. I gave it a try and it wasn’t terrible; in fact, I was impressed with how much they could put together for a simple real estate website based in California.

A good post on how to think about content in a “sea” of AI-generated content:

Generative AI makes it very easy to share fairly well-written, fairly accurate information, on a staggering array of topics. Humans will never beat AI at this game, and frankly, we shouldn’t try.

We need to accept the growing bifurcation of content. Let AI handle the low-end of content—basic informational content, definitions, summaries and synopses, listicles—and focus skilled human energy on the high-end.

In the era of generative AI, there is no edge to be found by simply shuffling common knowledge from place to place. We need to find new dimensions of differentiation and lean into our unique strengths: creating new information through experimentation, getting our hands dirty and sharing first-person experience, and exerting ourselves to create what others won’t.

AI helps us focus on the higher-order and more important things that machines can’t do well, at least for right now.

A few thoughts on okcupid and how they are using AI to not just moderate content but also for their communication and marketing teams. I’m not presently in the dating pool but even if I was I’d be wary of how AI is going to take over this entire space. I think it already has.

Yikes:

Tech companies are serving up million-dollar-a-year compensation packages, accelerated stock-vesting schedules and offers to poach entire engineering teams to draw people with expertise and experience in the kind of generative AI that is powering ChatGPT and other humanlike bots. They are competing against each other and against startups vying to be the next big thing to unseat the giants.

Not surprised but I can see these compensation figures coming down to reality as more and more folks have the skills to get work done. But, now’s the time to cash-in if you can do it.

Wow. That’s a lot of money:

Amazon just announced an additional $2.75 billion investment in Anthropic, on top of its initial $1.25 billion, marking the tech giant's largest outside investment in its history.

Let’s get it done.

Hoory is an AI assistant for customer support. That’s it. That’s the app.

Jack AI is a marketing assistant to help you create and edit content. Might be useful for your small business or even personal needs.

And that’s it! Have a great rest of your Thursday!
