Morning y’all!
It’s getting a bit warmer where I’m at but not as warm as I’d like so I’m spending a lot of time underneath heavy blankets and sporting warm, furry slippers as I walk around the place. Although, I do remember a computer science professor who would tell us repeatedly that it’s better to do serious work in a “cold room” because it energizes the brain more — I didn’t believe him then and I still don’t believe him now!
This newsletter has now crossed 30 subscribers! It’s not much but it means that we’re 30% there to my goal of reaching 100 subscribers by the end of this month. If you’ve gotten any value out of the writing thus far, would you mind sharing this newsletter with friends, family, and coworkers? I appreciate that!

Deloitte shared a larger “State of Generative AI” for the enterprise and there are a few interesting notes that I wanted to call-out and share with you, especially if you’re running low on time or entirely disinterested in walking through their .pdf.
🚨 — Don’t worry, I have the full document attached at the end of the post so you’ll have a copy and won’t have to give them your email information to get it.
Here’s a high-level summary and then a few slides of interest:
Top executives from big companies admit that they aren’t ready for generative AI and many believe the challenges are going to get even bigger. Not surprising is the fact that the leaders who know the most are also the ones who are the most worried about how it’ll impact their business.
The survey of 2,800 leaders shows that only 1 in 4 believe their organizations are ready to address AI governance and the risks within and 47% feel as if they are educating their employees sufficiently about artificial intelligence.
Most notably is the understanding of talent scarcity within their own organizations so most businesses are looking to hire new staff from the outside.
Here’s the document for your own reading pleasure:
And here are two slides that I thought were most interesting with some personal thoughts sprinkled in:
99% of businesses believe that generative AI is going to directly impact and transform their business in the next 3+ years. Ninety-nine percent. The point and implication for us is very clear: AI is here and it’s going to only continue to grow in use and those who are working in this space are going to have the best professional opportunities for our career(s).
Get on the boat or drown. And for the 30 or so folks who said “never” — they must be smoking something pretty strong or were trolling the survey. Ooph.
🚬
This slide is only interesting to me because it gives us an idea of where their heads are at when it comes to practical uses of generative AI (which is what this newsletter is focused on). I find this useful for new product ideation and in particular startups who are considering entering the space with new solutions.
Consequently, take a look at these areas of focus:
Improving efficiency and productivity
Reduce costs
Increasing speed of developing new systems / software
Increase revenue
Enhance relationships with clients / customers
Detect fraud and manage risk
If you were looking to build anything in this space I’d highly suggest starting with these value propositions in-mind so that you can capture the interest (and wallets) of businesses for revenue and customer growth.
Just a thought.
