ChatGPT Not Worth It, Perplexity as Default Search in Chrome, and Rabbit R1 Reviews
And AI in India elections, apps, and more
Morning y’all!
It’s Tuesday and the week still feels pretty fresh and new — I wonder what the back half of the week shall bring! For starters, I’m kicking it off by saving a bit of money:
I’ve been paying for $20 for the last 5 months (total slightly over $100) and I probably used it only a few dozen times, for what I’d consider “serious” work. But, I’m just not feeling the pricing anymore, especially with so many free and open source options. I’d rather save my money!
Might be worth for you to review your AI-specific expenses and pare them back if you’re not really getting the value!

Did you know that you could “default” your search engine in Chrome to Perplexity? It’s actually not that hard! Goto settings and then search engines on the left:
You can then add or edit an existing one! Just use the following in your new engine:
Perplexity AI
perplexity.ai/search
https://www.perplexity.ai/search?focus=internet&q=%s
That’s it! Magic. So good. Make sure to make it default and then you’re set.
Fun and fake advertisement for The Simpsons as if it was based in the 1950’s with live-action. Kinda creepy if you ask me.
GitHub’s new Copilot Workspace is announced to help developers run everyday tasks.
Somewhat strange looking camera turns images into sonnets and haikus. It’s open source so you can fiddle with the insides if you want. Equipped with a Raspberry Pi and using OpenAI GPT-4.
A video that was used by a teacher to fake their boss making racist comments. This is going to happen more often and the resulting cultural reaction should be interesting. If making these are easy then claiming that they are fake is just as easy, even if the video is actually real.
A friend of mine is trying out this generative voice and I thought I’d share it here too. Convert text to speech for free with an AI voice generator.
Two Rabbit reviews, one that’s more real and one that’s less candid.
What LLM’s can’t do is a good overview and reminder that the technology has its limitations (but most folks do not know what).
Outerbase just has a neat website but also can do a few neat things with your data.
A look into the India elections and AI use within.
Political parties are willing to invest millions in a technology-driven campaign if it achieves their objectives, Shankar said. If a party is trying to run a campaign which could “touch almost every person in [their] state,” even a fee of $10 million “becomes a very average figure” to pay, he said.
But despite AI companies like Avantari turning down requests for political deepfakes, several such videos have circulated on the Indian internet this election season. Some recent viral deepfakes showed prominent Bollywood celebrities Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh criticizing Modi.
And that’s it friends! Have a great rest of your day!
